A friend recently told me golfing is a sport that is like hours of walking around talking with friends. Golfing is amazing because it is a sport that can be played year round in Miami and at any age.
One of my favorite clients was a woman in her 80’s who loved playing golf but had injured her shoulder (read more about: stretches for shoulder pain and frozen shoulder treatment in Doral).
Everyone told her that she was getting old and probably shouldn’t play golf any more. But golfing is such a great sport for people of all ages! Thankfully for her sake, she knew better for herself and sought out help.

If you love to stay active and golfing is a hobby of yours, here’s 3 ways to keep golfing without back pain:
- Move your whole spine. People often think it’s only the lower back – but we have a mid back and an upper back, all which contribute to how your lower back feels. Each segment moves in different directions. Your back can bend forward, backwards, and it also rotates at certain segments. It’s about moving each area in the correct direction. That’s the key with any sport!
- Addressing nagging aches and pains before they get worse. We often work with people once they “throw their back out” or can’t sleep. If you want to keep golfing without back pain, address those aches when they come up. If you take a swing and feel it tight or achy, imagine how much better your swing would be if you didn’t have any restrictions? It will ensure more time on the greens and impress your friends.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Some aches and pains don’t go away with just rest and stretches. If it’s lingering on for weeks and months, and you may find yourself playing less and less. Or playing only to pop some pills before and after.
Many people feel unsure or afraid of making the wrong decision therefore they end up doing nothing. Consider getting real help. We here at Hands-on Therapy Services specialize in helping you get clear on where you are stuck, so that you can move in the right direction. When you get to the root cause of shoulder pain or back pain, it’s the only way to ensure lasting results so that you can continue to stay active and play golf without pain or discomfort.
