The Best Exercises to Reduce Finger Arthritis Pain
As we age, all our joints are at risk for age related changes to the joints. Some people have a greater risk of developing arthritis – specifically arthritis of the hands.
If your parents have it, you might be at a greater risk of having arthritis to the small joints of your hands.
Sometimes it can be related to the work that you do in your lifetime.
The nodules that form on the middle knuckle and the little knuckle of your fingers are called huberdans and brochard nodules. They are just bony changes. They don’t look great but they don’t always hurt.
If they do hurt, here’s some of my favorite tips and exercises that I share with my patients.
1. Heat, especially moist heat is the best to help with pain and loosen up your joints. Paraffin is my favorite because it wraps around each individual joint of your hand and makes it feel nice and soft. It makes it easier to move.
2. Clasp hand stretch – clasp your hand and that’s it. Your fingers will stretch themselves. It’s not supposed to hurt and you may not feel that much. It’s a gentle stretch to stretch the bones of your hand and the small muscles between them.
3. Tendon gliding exercises – The video will show you what I’m talking about.
