Why Didn’t My Cortisone Injection Work for My Pain?

Why Didn’t My Cortisone Injection Work for My Pain_ png

We see many clients in our office after “failed” cortisone shots.

If you suffer from wrist pain and you have gone to the doctor, it’s common for them to offer you pills for your pain or when it’s really bad a cortisone injection.

We work with people without any incident like a fall or accident, yet over time, they develop pain that comes and goes. Over time, the discomfort turns to pain, the pain is more frequent, or it becomes more intense.

We had a young woman call our office the other day, frustrated because both her wrists were hurting. She told us that her wrist pain had been getting worse, and it’s been months if not years that she’s been living with the pain because the injection she got didn’t work and she didn’t want another one.

If this has happened to your WRIST, you got a cortisone injection, AND it has not helped….

…give us a call to see if we can offer a solution.

What might be the reasons that the cortisone injection failed?

The one reason the cortisone injection failed is that that’s not where the actual problem is located. You FEEL pain in your wrist, but the problem might be somewhere else.

  • The problem may be at your elbow.

  • The problem might be on your shoulder.

In her case, it turned out she did have elbow pain, shoulder issues, as well as back issues that complicated her wrist issues.

That’s why splints didn’t help.

That’s why other therapy clinics she went to didn’t help. Because they only focused on one area, and not focused on what she wanted to be able to get back to doing as a person.

That’s why the cortisone didn’t help her.

Cortisone injections are often prescribed for tendinitis issues, trigger finger, arthritis, and so much more. But it does come with its side effects and if the doctor is “off” that day, you can have more pain than relief.

So when it comes to cortisone shots, you really want to make sure that… The root source of your problem is:

  1. indeed – inflammation

  1. And that you definitely need one (aka there is no other natural alternative)

  • The reason why so many cortisone injections “fail” is because quite often – they weren’t needed in the first place.

Even though the actual pain you are experiencing might be due to inflammation, the underlying cause leading to the inflammation could be something else entirely.

The good news is that there are ways to solve this type of problem (and others) naturally, and without a cortisone injection.

But the important thing for you to realize here is that if you did get a cortisone shot recently and it appears to have “failed”, the last thing you want to do is get another one or resort to an even more invasive procedure.

So, if you’ve recently had a cortisone shot and it didn’t work, it could very well be that you never actually needed it, or that the wrong problem (inflammation) was being addressed instead of the underlying cause.

If you are considering something like a cortisone shot, it’s always a good idea to get a second opinion to make certain you really need it and that it’s the best course of action for your problem.

People come to us ALL the time for second opinions about this sort of thing. They want to make sure they don’t have a problem somewhere else that doesn’t require another injection or even worse…surgery.
